Joe DioGuardi, seen above, who represented the suburbs north of the city for two terms in the 1980s, is set to announce his candidacy on Tuesday.
He is expected to make the announcement at Grand Central Terminal.
DioGuardi is a certified public accountant who lives with his wife in Ossining, N.Y.
He is also the father of “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi.
Former Long Island lawmaker Bruce Blakeman is also running in the Republican primary, and a number of other Republicans are considering runs.
