Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano announced a $22 million cut Monday in overall public payroll for the year.
Mangano’s mission is to slash patronage hiring in the county’s departments as part of a concerted effort to fill the county’s nearly $50 million budget gap — about $20 million of which resulted from his repeal of the home heating tax.
The county executive promises to focus on cutting managerial and executive positions first and says he is already halfway through his goal of cutting 350 jobs in 47 departments.
