Federal prosecutors are reportedly looking into how the city’s Board of Elections secured a $50 million contract for new voting machines.
According to the New York Post, an investigation is underway to determine if there was anything irregular in the deal landed by Election Systems and Software of Omaha, Nebraska.
A source tells the paper the probe began when Anthony Mangone was indicted on bribery charges. Mangone was one of several lobbyists hired by ES&S, which was selected to provide the machines over Dominion Voting of Toronto.
The new electronic voting machines are scheduled to be in place in time for the September primary.
But the Post says the federal investigation could delay the debut.
