Republican candidate for governor Rick Lazio called on his potential rival Monday to make up his mind about this year’s race for the state house.
After addressing the State Conservative Party in suburban Albany, Lazio appeared Monday on NY1’s “Inside City Hall” where he said State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo should put an end to the speculation.
Cuomo has built up a considerable campaign war chest while refusing to say whether or not he plans on challenging Governor David Paterson in this fall’s Democratic primary.
Lazio said that Cuomo has already decided that he’s running for governor and is purposely ducking some of the key issues facing the state.
“He’s been around Albany for 25 years. I’m sure he’s got some opinions on these things,” Lazio said. “The question is, maybe he doesn’t want to say how he feels about these things because his opinions or his views are contrary to the views of the people. At any rate, you can’t lead from a foxhole, you got to get out and show leadership.”
The Attorney General responded in a statement saying, “While the Conservative Party politicians have started their campaigns, the Attorney General is focused on his public service representing the people of the State by fighting corruption and greed on Wall Street and rooting out waste and abuse in government.”
