Half of major roads and about 40% of bridges in New York are in need of repair, according to a report released Thursday.
About 12% of New York’s bridges—many of them on state highways—have structural problems, and a quarter do not meet current highway-design standards, said the report by the General Contractors Association of New York, AAA of New York and TRIP of Washington, D.C, a national transportation research organization.
Most of the roads deemed in need of repair have what the researchers called “roadway alignment” problems and pavement deterioration.
