Jefferson County Legislator Barry M. Ormsby said Tuesday that he is interested in the 48th state Senate District seat, and will decide by month’s end if he’ll seek the Republican nomination.
The Belleville resident said he’s considering a bid, in part because he’s displeased that lawmakers did not sufficiently prepare for the economic downturn that has put the state in deficit.
“When we look at the bigger picture, I think people can simply ask: Is this state any less dysfunctional than it was a couple of years ago?” he said.
Mr. Ormsby, 49, also said there needs to be “fundamental changes” to state government to reduce regulations and pressures that hurt small business growth.
