Embattled state Republican committee Chairman Joseph Mondello has just announced plans not to seek another term as head of the state party.
Instead, he will be focusing his job as chairman of the Nassau County Republican Party.
The Republicans will choose a new state leader at their organizational meeting late next month.
This clears the way for two leading competitors, Ed Cox and Henry Wojtaszek, who will be competing for the chairmanship.
