The city’s largest public employee union is expected to endorse Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s rival, striking a blow into his reelection campaign.
District Council 37 is reportedly announcing its support for City Comptroller William Thompson at its headquarters in Battery Park City this afternoon.
The union endorsed Bloomberg’s 2005 campaign, when he ran as a Republican.
The mayor granted the workers a pay increase last fall, despite the economic crisis. But there have been recent spats with the Bloomberg administration, including issues with the city budget.
