Gov. David Paterson’s campaign is reimbursing the state for a trip the governor and his family took to President Obama’s inauguration on a state-owned plane.
The campaign cut a check for $3,600 after the Albany Times Union newspaper questioned why taxpayers should be stuck with the cost of the flight.
State ethics rules say state aircraft should only be used for state business.
The paper has also questioned whether $3,600 is enough to cover the bill. Travel experts say such a flight would normally cost about $8,000.
The governor’s aides say they are recalculating the cost and plan to pay more once that analysis is complete.
