A top aide to New York Senate Democrats has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge in a case in which she had been accused of forgery.
Prosecutors say Indira Noel faked the signature of a fellow legislative staffer in order to obtain his college transcripts.
They say she was trying to get him fired for lying about his academic credentials.
Noel could have faced jail time, but cut a deal with the Albany County district attorney in which she pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and paid a $250 fine.
Noel is the director of intergovernmental relations for the Senate Democrats.
A spokesman for Senate President Malcolm Smith says she will face no further disciplinary action. The legislature recently hiked her pay to $118,000.
