The Senate’s monthlong descent into chaos wasted more than $5 million in state tax dollars and potentially robbed local governments of $150 million in expected revenue, The Post has learned.

The price tag includes $5.2 million for payroll, which the 62 feuding lawmakers “earned” as they failed to pass a single piece of uncontested legislation while warring over titles and trading personal attacks.

The stalemate also blew $60 million in the city’s budget when senators allowed a June 30 deadline to pass without approving a requested 0.5 percentage-point sales-tax hike.

Meanwhile, the do-nothing lawmakers racked up an estimated $160,000 in per diems and travel expenses Gov. Paterson says they can collect when they finish passing vital legislation.

Costs included hundreds of thousands of dollars in staff overtime as the Senate remained in Albany on the governor’s orders, with at least $14,000 extra spent on additional sergeants-at-arms needed to keep the peace in the chamber.
