A city councilman yesterday accused an opponent for the city comptroller’s job of sabotaging a bill to expand bicycle parking in the city.

David Yassky (D-Brooklyn), who authored the legislation, said Councilman John Liu (D-Queens), impeded the passing of the bill so Yassky cannot claim credit during the election.

“All I know is the bill was slated to pass the council on Tuesday and it was derailed at the last minute. I sense politics is at work,” Yassky said.

Liu, who laughed at the charge, originally co-sponsored it with Yassky , but last week refused to bring it up for a vote in the Transportation Committee he chairs, defying expectations of its supporters.

Liu said he did not pass the bill through his committee last week because it would be regulated by the Department of Transportation instead of the Department of Buildings.

He said the transportation agency is ill equipped to take on more responsibility.
