Thursday announced plans to withhold the pay of state senators until they resolve their differences while Gov. David A. Paterson took a stab at mediation.

DiNapoli said senators wouldn’t receive paychecks for the two-week period ending July 8. He also said $560,000 in Senate expenses – more than half for senators’ travel – wouldn’t be reimbursed.

Senators were last paid on June 24, the same day Paterson first called for hitting them in the wallet. That two-week period followed the June 8 coup that has stalled legislation for nearly a month.

“The deadlock in the Senate is undermining the ability of state government to function,” said DiNapoli, a former assemblyman from Great Neck. “I urge senators to resolve their differences now.”
