Posted by A candidate for New York City Council says two volunteers gathering signatures for him were threatened by armed members of a rival campaign.
Tony Herbert says the volunteers were in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn when they were approached by men in a blue SUV with campaign stickers for incumbent Darlene Mealy. Herbert says the men brandished a 9mm pistol and told his volunteers to get out of the area before driving off.
Police at the 81st Precinct are investigating the incident. A call and an e-mail message to Mealy was not immediately returned.
Herbert says he is fearful for his security and will have guards with him now.
The two are running for the 41st District seat. Mealy has been in office since 2006.
