Posted by New York’s senators are expected to quickly gavel in and out of separate sessions to try to satisfy Gov. David Paterson’s order, but insist they are progressing in private talks to share power.
Democratic conference leader John Sampson of Brooklyn says his Democrats and the coalition of 30 Republicans and a dissident Democrat will hold separate sessions Thursday under their own leaders as they have over more than two weeks of gridlock.
He says he still doubts Paterson’s order for the Senate to remain in Albany is constitutional, but feels the separate sessions would satisfy his order even if any votes are invalid.
Sampson says the governor has already ordered senators back for a session Friday. He says talks about short-term power-sharing and a longer term solution continue.
