A federal judge ruled Monday that the city can’t force cabbies to go green.
The judge says the city’s efforts to only allow cab owners to buy hybrid cars is prevented by federal law.
Last year, the same judge blocked other plans by the city to make the entire taxi fleet green by 2012.
The Metropolitan Taxicab Board of Trade applauded the judge’s ruling, but say it’s willing to work with the city to come up with a more fuel-efficient taxi fleet.
The city’s law department says it’s disappointed in the ruling and will pursue other legal options.
