Another potential Democratic primary challenger for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is out of the running.
Long Island Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy tells NY1 she won’t challenge Gillibrand in a primary next year.
Several potential rivals for Gillibrand recently decided not to challenge her, including Long Island Congressman Steve Israel and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.
Israel bowed out of the race after President Barack Obama urged him not to run against Gillibrand.
Manhattan Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney is still considering challenging Gillibrand in a primary.
Governor David Paterson appointed Gillibrand to her U.S. Senate seat after Hillary Clinton resigned to become Secretary of State in January.
Immediately following the appointment, McCarthy said she would run against Gillibrand if no one else did, because of disagreements over gun control.
