A grand jury on Long Island has indicted a Nassau County politician on federal tax evasion charges.
Nassau County Legislator Roger Corbin was charged Tuesday with four felonies, including committing fraud by filing false federal income taxes on $226,000 he received from a developer and lying to a federal agent.
Corbin was arrested on May 6 on similar charges. He pleaded not guilty at his initial court appearance.
Defense attorney Thomas Liotti says his client is innocent. He says Corbin intends to run for office again, even if he’s not chosen as a candidate by the Democratic Party for his district.
Local U.S. attorney’s office spokesman Robert Nardoza says the indictment “speaks for itself.”
