Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s bid to keep control of city schools is getting more support from a key lawmaker.
Sources say at a closed-door conference, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver argued on behalf of keeping the structure of an education policy board largely intact.
But the Democrat was also said to want more parental involvement, greater oversight, and additional responsibilities for district superintendents.
A Silver spokesman declined to comment.
Rank and file lawmakers were also said to favor fixed terms for board members.
The bill giving Bloomberg control expires at the end of this month. The measure requires passage in the Assembly and the State Senate.
