Suffolk county legislator Jon Cooper is setting up an exploratory committee to raise money for a possible run against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2010.
The list of potential opponents for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand just got longer. With polls showing nearly half of New Yorkers still not familiar enough with Ms. Gillibrand to have any opinion of her, even a little-known county legislator thinks the race is worth a shot.
Jon Cooper, a Democrat and the number-two man in the Suffolk County Legislature, announced Tuesday that he has created an exploratory committee to raise money for a possible bid. He plans to travel the state over the next month to meet with Democratic officials, says committee spokesman Anthony Figliola.
