Governor David Paterson is expected to announce plans Thursday to introduce legislation in Albany to legalize gay marriage, according to NY1 sources.
The governor indicated last week that he would likely push the legislature to legalize same-sex marriage, even if the votes are not necessarily there for it to pass.
While it seems likely that the State Assembly will approve a gay marriage bill, the State Senate is only narrowly controlled by the Democrats, who have been more supportive of same-sex marriage.
There has been increased pressure on Paterson and Albany lawmakers to move ahead with a gay marriage bill after both Vermont and Iowa legalized the practice earlier this month.
Paterson is set to make his announcement at his midtown offices Thursday at 10 a.m.
