Former State GOP leader Stephen Minarik died Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack.
The Republican leader was handpicked by former governor George Pataki in 2004 to lead the state’s GOP.
He was 49 years old.
Minarik stepped down just two years later after he failed to produce the successes the party needed.
Pataki released a statement, saying, “Steve Minarik was a loyal and tenacious leader, a great Chairman and a great friend. And while he will be remembered for his love of politics it was his commitment to his family, that defined Steve as a man, as a husband and as a father.”
