The closely watched race to buy Brooklyn’s Starrett City apartment complex is now down to one bidder.
Sources say the current owners of the housing development are now talking with one group that includes the Christian Cultural Center, the nonprofit Housing Partnership Development Corporation, and two developers.
The deal isn’t set in stone, but sources say the group’s bid could be as high as $700 million.
According to the New York Times, the owners cut off talks with the group’s only rival bidder, who had offered just under $600 million.
Last year, elected officials and tenant groups blocked a $1.3 billion sale of Starrett City to a private developer, and the current owners agreed to make make an effort to keep the development affordable.
Starrett City is the nation’s largest federally subsided housing development, with 5,900 apartments.
