With votes almost all counted in the race for the 24th Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri, D-Utica, has an 8,443 vote advantage against Republican challenger Richard Hanna, according to the most up-to-date results from Board of Elections officials in all 11 counties in the district.

As of Tuesday evening, Tompkins County was the only county in the district that still was counting votes for the race, and every county except Oneida County was able to provide updated totals. Some totals remained unofficial.

The updated totals from each county place Arcuri ahead 126,483 to 118,040. Arcuri’s advantage increased by more than 2,000 votes since his election night edge of 118,640 to 112,249.

Arcuri’s 8,443 vote lead is more than the 7,905 absentee ballots that were sent out in Oneida and Tompkins counties. Tompkins County Board of Elections officials said they expect to finish counting today.

The congressman declared victory in the race the day after Election Day, but Hanna has yet to concede.

Hanna’s campaign has scheduled a news conference for this morning. Hanna’s press secretary Renee Gamela had no comment Tuesday evening.

Gamela confirmed that Oneida County finished counting the votes shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, but Oneida County Board of Elections officials could not be reached Tuesday evening for the totals.

Arcuri and his campaign manager Jordan Karp could not be reached Tuesday.
