Thompson and De Blasio are driven by self-interest more than anything, and I don't trust what either of them have to say on this issue. De Blasio has been planning on Brooklyn BP and Thompson has been looking at Mayor since his reelection in 2005. They have been planning on Bloomberg and Marty getting booted out to open up the seats. They just don't want to actually have to compete anymore and it is totally disingenuous. If they feel like that they deserve these promotions, they should have to compete for them - just like the incumbents who should be given the chance for a third term. That's democracy!
