Congressional candidate Alexander “Sandy” Treadwell gave $1.8 million to his own campaign in the third quarter and has $855,303 to spend in the final three weeks of the race, according to election finance reports.
The Republican is running against one-term incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand in the 20th Congressional District contest, who raised $398,228 in the third quarter. She has raised $4.2 million in the campaign so far. The Gillibrand campaign still has $1.4 million in the bank.
Treadwell’s campaign has been almost entirely self-funded. Contributions from donors account for only $78,564 of the money he raised last quarter. He has contributed $4.4 million since he started his campaign.
Both Treadwell and Gillibrand are spending heavily on advertising. The Treadwell campaign paid $1.2 million to two Washington D.C. firms for media services and production.
Gillibrand paid $1.1 million to Media Strategies of Denver for air time.
Treadwell accepted $34,000 from political action committees while Gillibrand accepted $153,684 in the third quarter.
In the 21st Congressional district, spending on both sides of the balance sheet in the Tonko-Buhrmaster race is more conservative.
Democrat Paul Tonko raised $200,550, for $451,567 so far. More than two-thirds of the money, $91,000, came from PACs. His campaign has spent $183,866, with $106,134 on ads and printed material. Tonko has $83,870 left to spend.
Republican Jim Buhrmaster’s campaign raised $58,489 and spent $150,371. The largest payment was to Greener & Hook, an Arlington, Va., firm, to pay for a $90,170 “media wave.” Buhrmaster loaned his campaign $25,000 for a total of $125,000 so far. The campaign is $136,381 in debt and has $29,147 left.
