Community Votes in Favor of Willets Point Development
July 1, 2008
A plan to turn the gritty Willets Point neighborhood near Shea Stadium into a development that includes housing, a hotel, retail space and a convention center got a thumbs-up from a local group last night.
Community Board 7 approved the plan 20 to 15 early today. About 70 people spoke at the meeting - with land, business owners and workers in the area protesting.
The project is expected to displace 260 businesses.
