Albany Wraps Up Legislative Session
June 23, 2008
Albany’s legislative session is coming to a close this week with less drama than its start, which was marked by the Eliot Spitzer scandal and Governor David Paterson’s takeover.
Lawmakers are still hammering out some final agreements, and although today is supposed to be the last day of the session, it’s expected that lawmakers will continue to work later into the week.
One of the key issues that Paterson and legislative leaders are still working on is a proposed cap on property-tax increases, which does not affect the city.
Also still on the table a proposed waste-transfer station on Manhattan’s Ganesvoort Peninsula, a linchpin in the mayor’s trash plan.
Over the weekend, an agreement was reached on a new program aimed at spurring energy-efficient homes, changes in state procurement rules, and tougher laws aimed at preventing identity theft.
