State Senate increase fine for Poop Scoop Law

June 3, 2008

Apple residents who fail to pick up after their dogs could soon get dumped on with a $250 fine, after the state Senate voted yesterday to hike the penalty.

The increase - up from $100 under the current pooper-scooper law - passed 59-1 after three failed attempts in recent years.

The legislation, which was sponsored by Sens. Frank Padavan (R-Queens) and Martin Golden (R-Brooklyn), now goes to the governor’s desk to be signed or vetoed.

An identical bill sponsored by Audrey Pheffer (D-Queens) passed the Assembly last year.

The bill would also raise pooper-scooper fines in Albany and Yonkers.

City Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty lauded the bill, saying it “sends a strong message to all dog owners about the seriousness of the law and their responsibility to comply.”

Pick up after your dog… I had problems until I found a new pooper scooper at http://www.pixitup.com and realized someone was serious in their design. Uses biodegradable bags, has an adjustable handle and has a spade for tough removal. The bag is big and the price is good. Site has a video that is well do and shows how it works… good job pixitup.
