GOP Leaders On S.I. Meet To Pick Fossella’s Replacement
May 27, 2008
Staten Island’s Republican leaders met Monday to decide on a replacement for embattled United States Congressman Vito Fossella.
State Senator Andrew Lanza is among the rumored candidates for the job. A decision could come as soon as Tuesday.
Fossella decided not to seek re-election after an arrest for drunk driving, which then led to the disclosure that he had a child with a longtime mistress in Virginia.
Fossella is the only Republican in New York City’s congressional delegation, so the party is determined to hold onto the seat.
