Onondaga County Republicans met Thursday night to designate candidates, including one race for a state Senate district that includes Madison County and part of Oneida County.
The Onondaga County Republican Committee voted to back DeWitt Town Supervisor Jim DeStefano in the 49th District, over Kirk Bristol, a retired West Genesee school district principal. Democrat David Valesky is the incumbent.
The district also includes parts of Onondaga and Cayuga counties. Committees in each county vote for candidates.
