Suozzi: ‘I’m not running for governor’
April 8, 2008
Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi denied Monday morning a published report that said he’s weighing another run for governor in 2010.
“It’s not true,” Suozzi told Newsday. ” David Paterson is our governor and I support him. I have no such plans. I don’t know where they got this from.”
Suozzi was referring to a report in the New York Post that cited unnamed Democrats saying the Nassau executive intends to challenge Paterson because the new governor is “not up to the job.”
In 2006, Suozzi unsuccessfully challenged Democratic favorite Eliot Spitzer in a primary. Suozzi lost badly. Since then, Suozzi has worked hard to rebuild relationships with the party’s leaders and then-Gov. Spitzer. Suozzi currently leads a state commission examining whether to cap school property taxes.
“David Paterson brings to his office the governmental and political experience and ability to lead our state forward during these difficult times. I will do everything I can to help him be successful,” Suozzi said in a statement.
