March 20, 2008
Five-term western New York Congressman Thomas Reynolds is not seeking re-election this year.
The 57-year-old Republican lawmaker from Erie County will make the announcement at a news conference scheduled for noon Thursday in his Buffalo-area district, according someone familiar with Reynolds’ decision. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement hasn’t been made yet.
Reynolds, the former chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, narrowly defeated Democrat Jack Davis in the last two elections.
Reynolds was once considered a potential candidate for House Speaker but his political fortunes fell with those of the national GOP.
