Sandy Frankel Announces Candidacy for State Senate Seat
February 13, 2008
Brighton Town Supervisor Sandy Frankel formally announced her candidacy Tuesday for the state senate from the 56th district.
Frankel has been been town supervisor for 16 years and was the Democratic party’s nominee for lieutenant governor in 1998.
Frankel says she’s concerned about the need for economic growth, educational outcomes, health care reform, and the environment. But she describes herself as optimistic about the future, citing the people, the educational institutions, and natural resources.
Frankel wants to eliminate thruway tolls as a way to revitalize commercial transportation and tourism. And she’s calling for high-speed train service linking western New York with the eastern corridor.
The 56th district State Senate seat is currently held by Republican Joe Robach. Democrat Willa Powell, a Rochester City School Board member, has also declared her candidacy for the seat. Former Brighton Town Judge Richard Dollinger is also considering a run for the seat.
