Viola Plummer Discrimination Case Dismissed
January 24, 2008
I’m told the racial discrimination portion of the case Viola Plummer brought has been dismissed against the city and Council Speaker Christine Quinn for firing Plummer from her post as Councilman Charles Barron’s chief of staff following her “assassinate” comment in connection with Councilman Leroy Comrie following the Sonny Carson street-naming fight.
BUT, the part of the case that questions whether Quinn had the authority to fire Plummer at all, given that she was hired and working for an independently-elected member of the Council, remains in place and will go to trial.
Updates to come.
As one Council observer wryly noted: Between the dismissed rape indictment of Councilman Dennis Gallagher and the Plummer decision, it’s getting to be like Court TV around here.
