In a nut shell no. But that said there are plenty of people out there that want Mayor Mike Bloomberg to run for President. According to Andrew MacRae (aka Citizen Smith) and others Mayor Bloomberg is what this country needs:

We are American citizens representing the entire spectrum of political ideologies.

We are not sponsored nor endorsed by any political or ideological organization.

Our backgrounds and beliefs represent the vast range of the unique American experience.

We do not hold agreement on all issues, but we share a common goal.

Our common alliance and purpose is to build a popular citizen’s movement supporting Mike Bloomberg as our choice for President of the United States.

Though they are not the only ones soliciting a Bloomberg Presidency, The NY Sun and other newspapers are weighing in on the potential Mayor moving from his town house to the White house.

From the NY Sun:

A political strategist and pollster who has advised President Clinton and Mayor Bloomberg is arguing that America could elect a third-party candidate to be president in 2008, and discloses how such a campaign might be pulled off in a new book that seems designed to convince Mr. Bloomberg to launch a White House bid.

In “Declaring Independence: The Beginning of the End of the Two-Party System,” Douglas Schoen constructs an electoral road map for an independent candidate and promotes Mr. Bloomberg as a possible contender with the potential to mount a serious challenge to the Democratic and Republican candidates.

From The NYTimes:

As the actual presidential candidates settled down in New Hampshire, noncandidate Michael Bloomberg kicked off his sideshow in Oklahoma last night, arriving at Senator David L. Boren’s house with an armful of Junior’s cheesecakes with which to fuel their two-day confab on how to stop “partisan polarization” in Washington. Will the solution they come up with be a Bloomberg run for the White House? It had better be, because we’re all getting kind of tired of asking the question, and the unflagging enthusiasm of the Bloomberg for President people is starting to look really kind of awkward. One thing is certain, as the AP this morning pointed out, Bloomberg’s language about running seems to have changed perceptibly in the past few months. Below, a brief history of the shifting nature of Hizzoner’s denials.

So what’s the Mayor up too? Well let’s say he has the connections, he has the money, he has the media but the one thing he doesn’t have is the voters.

Our prediction: Look for Mayor Mike to tour the US after his term is over in NYC to boost his name and make a bid for the 2012 election.

From the Daily News:

Doug Schoen, the mayor’s pollster for his two mayoral campaigns, said Deputy Mayor Kevin Sheekey plans to spend the next two months on an “elaborate and sophisticated” assessment of the mayor’s White House chances. It will include polling, local operatives and voter analysis down to the precinct.

“The breadth and depth of his contacts is extraordinary,” said Schoen, who said he is not working for Bloomberg.
